President Obama is making the familiar pitch for gun control, again, pointing to Aurora and most recently the Sikh temple shootings as “reasons.”
In case no one has reminded you lately, criminals don’t care about gun laws. Places that have gun laws still have murders with what? Guns. And in the case of the shootings at the aforementioned tragedies? No one returned fire. In other words, the people in the theater were already disarmed! How are gun control people going to spin that?
Just a guess here, but if several people in either case had returned fire, the body counts would have been less tragic. Sorry about the dead people but nut-jobs, gangs and crooks don’t give a rip…

India is calling on the US to do more to protect “religious places” in the US.
The great spin in on, with one side talking about how the feds were “aware” of the far right activities of the shooter. Outside the corpmedia, the purported perp’s background as a military psychological operations specialist is getting more play.
Kind of makes you wonder, don’t it?

So does the report that the psychiatrist of the (alleged) shooter in Aurora told the cops about concerns with her patient two weeks before Aurora.
Common thread here? In both cases, “authorities” had some forewarning and what happened? Nothing. Coincidence?

That’s the idea behind stories that are making the rounds that Iran is closer than previously thought to having nuclear weapons. I still haven’t reconciles why gun control is such a big deal in the USA while the UN lets a dozen countries have nukes. Like countries are smarter than people?

Abstract “Climate dice,” describing the chance of unusually warm or cool seasons, have become more and more “loaded” in the past 30 y, coincident with rapid global warming. The distribution of seasonal mean temperature anomalies has shifted toward higher temperatures and the range of anomalies has increased. An important change is the emergence of a category of summertime extremely hot outliers, more than three standard deviations (3?) warmer than the climatology of the 1951–1980 base period. This hot extreme, which covered much less than 1% of Earth’s surface during the base period, now typically covers about 10% of the land area. It follows that we can state, with a high degree of confidence, that extreme anomalies such as those in Texas and Oklahoma in 2011 and Moscow in 2010 were a consequence of global warming because their likelihood in the absence of global warming was exceedingly small. We discuss practical implications of this substantial, growing, climate change. “
